VoltShield Electrical Insulating Switchboard Matting is specialist rubber safety matting for use in front of electrical switchboards, control panels and electrical equipment. It provides an electrically insulating standing surface in dry indoor work areas, with a fine-ribbed finish that helps improve underfoot grip.
Choose from standard insulating rubber matting, BS EN 61111:2009-rated Class 0, Class 2 and Class 4 options, and a separate VDE-tested version. Each version has its own performance specifications. Select the correct variant based on the operating voltage, site safety requirements and applicable standards.
Key Benefits
- Purpose-designed electrical insulating matting for switchboards and electrical work areas
- Fine-fluted ribbed rubber surface for improved grip
- Available in practical linear-metre lengths or full rolls
- Choice of thicknesses, widths and tested safety classifications
- Loose-lay installation for suitable dry indoor environments
Types and Electrical Ratings
- Standard insulation matting: 6 mm and 9 mm black options. The 6 mm version is withstand-tested to 11 kV; the 9 mm version to 15 kV. These are test values, not stated safe working voltages.
- BS EN 61111 Class 0: 3 mm; rated working voltage up to 1 kV, withstand tested to 10 kV.
- BS EN 61111 Class 2: 4 mm; rated working voltage up to 17 kV, withstand tested to 30 kV.
- BS EN 61111 Class 4: 5 mm; rated working voltage up to 36 kV, withstand tested to 50 kV.
- VDE-tested version: 4.5 mm grey rubber, tested to 50 kV under the applicable electrical test method. This test voltage must not be treated as the permitted working voltage.
Recommended Applications
Electrical switchrooms, substations, maintenance bays, distribution boards, control panels and other indoor workplaces where appropriately rated electrical insulating floor matting is required.
Product Information
- Material: Rubber; material formulation varies by version
- Surface: Fine ribbed/fluted texture
- Colour: Standard black; VDE version grey
- Thickness options: 3 mm, 4 mm, 4.5 mm, 5 mm, 6 mm and 9 mm

Important Safety Information
Electrical safety ratings vary by variant. The appropriate class, voltage rating, inspection routine and use must be confirmed by a competent electrical safety professional. The stated dielectric test voltage is not necessarily the maximum permitted working voltage. Electrical insulating matting is an additional protective measure and does not replace safe isolation procedures or other required protective equipment.
